Hello!  I'm Shihara.

I am a fourth-year undergraduate student completing my Honours BA in Psychology at York University. I am a Research Assistant at the lab working under Dr. Bellana’s supervision. My main duties are comprised of data analysis, preparation and presentation with tasks such as conducting statistical analyses, coding and scoring data, data visualization and administrative duties such as database management and website creation.

My research interest lies in the development of creativity, sensory imagination (phantasia, aphantasia and hyperphantasia), and narratives with a focus on its use through transitional periods. I intend to pursue Clinical and Counselling Psychology in graduate school to become a licensed or Clinical Psychologist or Psychological Associate. I plan to do my honors thesis on the efficacy of narrative goal setting strategies on the reduction of stress through major transitional periods.

As a member of the South Asian community, I am eager to aid in the normalization of mental health conversations within the community while providing mental health solutions that are implementable and relevant for South Asian cultural dynamics.

Outside of academia, I am an avid artist with ongoing projects in music production, creative writing, acrylic painting, and clothes design – to name a few! I’m currently working on a dystopian space opera and novel (which is taking much longer than I anticipated), both of which I hope to publish one day!

You may see me referred to as Christina many times as you look through my work. This is because Christina is my legal first name, but I prefer to go by Shihara, my middle name!
